Slow Blink
“I trust you.”
CatCode Tip: Try slow blinking back at your cat. Many cats will return the blink!
A slow blink is one of the clearest signs your cat feels safe and comfortable around you. Cats naturally protect themselves by staying alert, so slowly closing their eyes near you is a major sign of trust.
What to Look for:
- Relaxed eyes
- Calm body posture
- Gently purring
- Tail resting naturally
The Loaf
“I’m cozy and comfortable.”

What to Look for:
- Paws hidden underneath body
- Calm ears
- Half closed eyes
- Quiet resting
When a cat tucks all four paws underneath their body like a loaf of bread, they’re usually feeling secure and relaxed.

Kneading
“This feels safe and comforting”
CatCode Tip: Some cats drool while kneading because they’re extremely relaxed
Kneading comes from kittenhood when kittens pressed against their mother to stimulate milk flow. Adult cats continue the behavior when they feel relaxed and content.
What to Look for:
- Rhythmic paw pressing
- Purring
- Soft blankets become victims
Tail Flicking
“I’m getting irritated”
CatCode Tip: This usually means it’s time to stop petting your cat.

What to Look for:
- Sharp tail movement
- Flattened ears
- Sudden swishing
- Tense posture
A fast or aggressive tail flick often means your cat is overstimulated or annoyed.
